A Word to the Wise

Dr. Walter Olsen

Is there any good news in the world today?

Fortunately, yes. There is the best of news. To some it is old news, but to some it may be new news. Though it was given many years ago, it is still current for the world today. The good news is the birth of Jesus Christ who was born into this world that He may be the sacrifice for our sins. "And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior , which is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:9-10). Considering the conditions of the world and especially the sinfulness and waywardness of our own hearts, there is no better news! Sin has plunged the world into utter spiritual darkness with all of its bitter fruit. Most of all, "...the wages of sin is death..." (Rom . 6:23). This includes both physical death, the separation of the soul from the body, and spiritual death, the separation of the soul from God. The good news is that Jesus Christ came to die for our sins that, by believing, we may be united with Him forever! He replaces death with life for those who believe.
