A Word to the Wise

Dr. Walter Olsen

What is the Lord wanting to see in the lives of people today?

Often we think of doing things to please God. Of course, good works should issue from our saving relationship with the Lord. However, there is something that precedes good works, and that is our personal relationship with the Lord Himself. The Lord said to His own people, "...but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word" (Isa. 662). Even so today, if we would know God and His attending blessings, there must be a submission to His word and will. There must be a seeing of our own insufficiency to please Him and make atonement for our sins. God alone can save us, but we need to see our sins and that He died on the cross to forgive us. Nothing else could please Him. Part of our surrender to God is our submission to His word. His word must be seen as being authoritative because it is of Him. Yes, the Lord wishes to see our dependence upon Him for salvation and our giving place to His word.
