A Word to the Wise

Dr. Walter Olsen

When can an individual or nation know the blessing of God? This is an important question because apart from God’s blessing life is filled with strife, confusion, doubt, and fear. This is in spite of temporary comforts, wealth, and a false sense of security. I say false security because there really is no permanent security apart from a relationship with God. The Psalmist said it right when he said, "Turn us again, O God, and cause Thy face to shine; and we shall be saved" (Psa. 80:3). The face of God will not shine with approval upon an individual or nation that turns its back upon God. To turn away from God is to suffer the consequences of human depravity. This is seen throughout the pages of the Bible as well as in human experience. On the other hand, when people repent of their sins, God forgives them and restores His abundant blessing to them. "Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase" (Psa 85:12). Let us reckon that, "His salvation is nigh them that fear Him; that glory may dwell in our land" (Psa. 85:9).
