A Word to the Wise
Dr. Walter Olsen
How important is the soul of man? The answer given depends upon one’s view of the Bible. Does he accept it as the literal truth of God or does he disbelieve and ignore it? Perhaps he is willing to accept an alternate view of life, such as that offered by the belief in evolution. In that case, he will have little or no concern for the value of life, especially life after death. He is willing to take his chance that there is no God and no accountability to Him and so all of his attention is given to living life to the fullest here and now. Thus, the eternal value of his soul is not something he concerns himself with. However, if one believes the Bible, that it is the revealed truth of God, he will accept God’s word regarding the value of his soul. He will agree with Jesus who said, "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matt. 16:26). For the believer, nothing is as important as the value of his soul including all the treasure of the whole world! He rejoices in the provision God has made for him and rejoices with great joy!
