A Word to the Wise

Dr. Walter Olsen

What is the difference between the gods of the world and the true God? By gods of the world is meant the things men create for themselves to worship. It may be a literal molded image or anything that men put in place of the God of the Bible. The Psalmist made it very clear when he said, "For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens" (Psa. 96:5). The true and living God of the Bible is the God who created all things. It is He alone who is worthy of our worship. The Apostle John said, "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created" (Rev. 4:11). John also said, "...Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing" (Rev. 5:12). Believers in heaven will spend much time worshiping the true, living God. Believers on earth may and should do likewise. To worship the God of the Bible is to bring something of the reality of God into one’s life.
